Cyclospora outbreak linked to Taco Bell lettuce
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The outbreak of the intestinal illness, cyclosporiasis, has been linked to shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell, according to ABC.
ABC said the locations it originated from are in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.
On Tuesday, Taco Bell responded to the rumors before it was confirmed they were the source of the outbreak.
“The health and safety of our guests is our top priority. Public health officials have not confirmed a link to Taco Bell or any specific ingredient, supplier, restaurant or retailer,” said Taco Bell Corp. “While authorities continue their broader review, Taco Bell has voluntarily and temporarily removed limited ingredients at select restaurants as a precautionary measure. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and follow the guidance of public health authorities.”
The investigation is ongoing as the outbreak has spread to at least 34 states, including Nebraska.
