Election day reminders as you head to the polls

Polling places opened around Lincoln at 8:00 Tuesday morning.

Mayoral and city council candidates are just some of the topics voters will decide on, along with the quarter-cent sales tax to fix Lincoln streets.

More than 19,000 early voting ballots were requested from the Lancaster County Election Commission.  As of Tuesday morning, 14,000 had been turned in.  Voters have until 8:00 Tuesday night to turn in their early voting ballots, as that is when the polls close.

Only one polling location has changed since the last election in November; those voters were notified of the change.

If you have moved since the last election, your polling place may be different.  You can call the Election Commission at (402) 441-7311, or go to their website here for more information on polling places and a sample ballot.

The issue of the quarter-cent sales tax is described in length on the primary ballot, so you’ll want to take the time to read it thoroughly before making a decision.

“If they haven’t thought about it yet, they might want to take some time to read it before they go and prepare themselves to do their research before they cast their ballot,” Election Commissioner David Shively said.

The top two candidates from both mayoral and city council races will advance to the general election in May.

The quarter-cent sales tax is only on the primary ballot, as the city has other issues they’ll add to the general election ballot.
