Madonna Magic: Lincoln wheelchair basketball team prepares for national competition

After a heartbreaking season a year ago, the Madonna Magic are ready to compete on the big stage.

The wheel chair basketball team missed the cut by only a few seeds last year. This year though is a different story.

They came in nationally ranked at 14 and to qualify they needed to be within the top 16.

A team that has been together for nearly five years says this year they couldn’t be more excited.

Three-time Paralympian on the US Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team and two-time Paralympic gold medalist Natalie Schneider has been competing for 14 years and this one in particular is special.

“This has been a fantastic year. This is the first time we’ve been to nationals in the 14 years I’ve been on the team,” Schneider said. “So I’m ecstatic.”

Madonna Magic finished their wheelchair basketball season at 11-1. Qualifying them to compete in Cleveland, Ohio’s Division II National tournament.

The team practiced Tuesday evening ahead of their trip to Ohio trying to iron out any last wrinkles.

They encourage anyone that may be interested in playing or trying out in the future to stop by the Madonna Proactive facility or check them out here: https://bit.ly/2SMJ53b.
