Man threatens to kill officers in Scottsbluff after trying to break into vehicles

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KLKN) — Yesterday morning, the Scottsbluff Police Department (SPD) responded to a call at Western Nebraska Community College.

Security had located a man trying to gain access to parked vehicles. According to SPD, when they arrived the subject was wearing a mask and a backpack.

When they approached, the subject began to threaten to kill the officers. The subject then ran from the officers and climbed onto a roof of a nearby building. The man then laid down on the roof, refusing to comply to officer demands.

Negotiators were called who maintained contact with the subject for nearly five hours.

According to SPD, they determined the man was experiencing a mental health crisis. He was eventually arrested and taken to the hospital after a medical emergency occurred during the scene.
