Gas prices rise along with billboard blaming President Trump

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A billboard near the south side of 31st Street and Cornhusker Hwy features the question, “Why does gas cost more this summer?”

The question is portrayed alongside a picture of President Donald Trump pointing to himself.

The billboard, along with nearly 350 others, were put up by the Sticker Shock Summer campaign, a group from Washington D.C.

Their website shows gas prices across the country along with how much more summer is costing families.

The website also claims that Trump’s policies, including the war in Iran, are what is raising prices for Americans.

Sen. Pete Ricketts said the war is necessary, if not burdensome.

“Certainly the conflict in the Middle East with Iran has created hardships, not the least of which is for our military families,” Ricketts said. “We tragically lost three more service members over the weekend. It has also raised the price of gasoline for families back here. There certainly is a burden that goes with it but the risk of Iran getting a nuclear weapon cannot be tolerated.”

Ricketts also said he hopes Iran and America negotiate sometime soon.

Gas prices in Lincoln continue to climb, hitting nearly four dollars per gallon.
