Lincoln rated ninth safest city out of 83 big cities in new study

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — In a new study by SmartAsset, Lincoln was rated the ninth safest city out of 83 U.S. cities with populations of 250,000 or greater.

SmartAsset ranked cities based on violent crime, property crime, traffic fatality rates and disaster risk.

Lincoln was ranked ninth out of the 83 cities.

Virgina Beach, Virgina was ranked the number one safest city while Memphis, Tennessee was ranked the least safe city out of the 83 big cities.

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) said the ranking is something the entire community should be proud of.

“Progress like this reflects the dedication of our sworn and professional staff, strong partnerships with local organizations and our commitment to community policing,” Erika Thomas, Public Informant Officer with LPD, said. “We also recognize that our work is ongoing. LPD will continue advancing the strategies proven to keep Lincoln safe by strengthening relationships and maintaining proactive efforts to help prevent violence before it occurs. We remain focused everyday on ensuring Lincoln is a safe place to work, live and visit.”
