Bryan Kohberger files for a challenge of his conviction after pleading guilty to Idaho students murders

BOISE, Id. (KLKN) — Bryan Kohberger, the suspect charged with the University of Idaho murders, is now trying to challenge his conviction. Today, Kohberger filed a petition for post-conviction relief with Ada County District Court.

Kohberger is representing himself as of now, according to the court documents.

The murders took place on Nov. 13, 2022. Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were all found deceased due to stabbing at their off-campus house.

Kohberger was arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary. In July 2025, Kohberger pleaded guilty to all counts. Due to his plea deal, the death penalty was taken off the table.

He was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences for the four counts of first-degree murder and 10 years for the felony burglary count.
