‘A true public servant’; Crete Chief of Police Gary Young died yesterday

CRETE, Neb. (KLKN) — Yesterday, July 27, Crete Chief of Police Gary Young died. Young served Crete Police Department for 41 years.

The City of Crete said he was a true public servant. They said his dedication to the safety of the community and the commitment to high expectations of law enforcement will last with his legacy.

Lincoln Police Department stated that the law enforcement family is tight-knit. LPD said many officers knew and worked with Young.

York County Sheriff’s Office said Young made a significant impact on the community and communities surrounding it.

Gov. Jim Pillen ordered flags to be lowers on the day of Chief Young’s interment.

“The selflessness that our police officers show every day when protecting our communities is something I never take for granted,” said Pillen. “With more than 40 years on the force, Chief Young was engaged and committed to the community he served. By those who knew him, he was an outstanding public servant, whose involvement in Crete extended beyond law enforcement.”
