Husker football head coach expects big things for 2026 season

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — This week, Big Ten Media Days hosted Nebraska Head Coach Matt Rhule and senior players Luke Lindenmeyer, Justin Evans and Andrew Marshall. The media days, hosted in Chicago, is an opportunity for Big Ten Conference coaches and players to preview the upcoming season.

The Huskers are joining after a 7-6 record last season.

Rhule said they came to compete this year.

“We didn’t come to Nebraska to go 7-6,” Rhule said. “We came to compete for this. Being here today with teams who have won the national championship is inspiring. It speaks to this conference, speaks to the people that run it like the coaches and players that are in it.”

After a 19-19 record for Rhule’s first three seasons with Nebraska, he said the program is taking a step this year.

“We understand that we have to take a step this year. We’re excited to do that,” Rhule said. “I hope you can hear in my voice that I believe we will because of the young men in our program and what they’ve done.”
