York County Commissioners discuss $2.6 million budget cuts

YORK, Neb. (KLKN) — Today, York County Commissioners announced details about their conversation regarding spending cuts.

The proposed cuts will amount in $2.6 million and commissions talked all day last week in order to strategize where to cut the proposed amount.

If they cannot cut that amount, they have to find other ways to pay for certain expenses other than using property tax dollars.

“As we go through this process, I think we should have the discussion and then we can input the new numbers to move forward,” Commissioner Randy Obermier said. “And today, we are talking wages. They are the big numbers in our budget. We are $2.6 million over the asking of last year, which is way more than our authority. And the inheritance tax fund is down to about $3 million which means there is less appetite to spend that money so we will have to talk about where to find the cuts.”

As they discussed the budget cuts, the commissioners also spoke about proposed increases from city organizations.

The commissioners will continue to discuss the budget cuts, increases and changes.
