President of University of Nebraska system addresses important highlights that will impact Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — President Dr. Jeffery Gold of the University of Nebraska system took the stand today to deliver the 2026 State of the University address. Gold highlighted achievements from the past year.
Gold said they are emerging from recent challenges stronger with more than 11,000 graduates joined the workforce last year.
In Kearney, Gold highlighted a $115 million Rural Health Education Complex as an example of the impact the universities have made.
Along with that, Gold highlighted expanding medical pharmacy, public health, nursing and allied health training in central rural Nebraska.
“This is more than a building. It is a promise to greater Nebraska,” Gold said. “The promise that students can train close to home, that communities can grow their own healthcare workforce and that the University of Nebraska will continue to be a partner in solving one of the most urgent challenges facing our state.”
The president also spoke about the university’s new artificial intelligence institute bringing university researchers together. How AI can be used in healthcare and agriculture is among the topics studied there.
