Nebraska State Treasurer joins J.D. Vance, Todd Blanche and other officials to prevent, detect fraud

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Today, Nebraska State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg joined federal officials, including Vice President J.D. Vance, U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche, and more, in Kansas City, Missouri.

The meeting was aimed to establish a federal-state partnership in order to detect and prevent fraud involving taxpayer-funded programs and public resources.

“Protecting taxpayer dollars is priority one at the State Treasurer’s Office,” Spellerberg said. “Fraud does not stop at state lines, and neither should our efforts to prevent it. This partnership gives us another tool to identify suspicious activity sooner, share information, and stop fraudulent payments before taxpayer dollars leave state accounts.”

The event brough officials from Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas and Iowa together to strengthen the cooperation and coordination between state officials and federal law enforcement.

According to the State Treasurer’s Office, they have blocked 48 fraudulent paper checks in Nebraska totaling $123,164.
