Sen. Ricketts highlights DHS and FEMA disaster relief achievements

OMAHA, Neb. (KLKN) — Today, Sen. Pete Ricketts joined U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials and local first responders in Omaha.

They highlighted the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and FEMA’s disaster relief achievements during recent times in Nebraska.

“When the president was looking at the $27 million that was being awarded from FEMA for reimbursement, the first call he wanted to make was to Sen. Ricketts and to talk to him about it,” Mullin said. “He wanted to let him know that it’s because of his relationship and his advocacy for Nebraska.”

The disaster relief achievements specifically spoken about were the Nebraska wildfires. The conversation focused on how local residents can receive FEMA aid.

A spokesperson with Dan Osborn’s campaign said Osborn, an Independent candidate for Senate, has used his platform for Nebraskans who suffered from wildfires.

“Dan looks forward to meeting with Secretary Mullen when he’s elected to the U.S. Senate,” they said. “Dan has already used his platform as a Senate candidate to bring attention to Nebraskans affected by disasters like the wildfires we experienced this spring, and will continue to make disaster relief a priority when elected.”
