Nebraska US District Court Judge announces senior status

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — U.S. District Court Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. has announced that he is taking senior status, effective as soon as the confirmation of his successor is made.

Rossiter taking senior status will now create a vacancy on Nebraska’s U.S. District Court bench.

“I am confident that Sen. Deb Fischer and Sen. Pete Ricketts will work with the administration toward the timely nomination and confirmation of a highly qualified successor,” Rossiter said. “Because Nebraska has only three active federal district judgeships, it is imperative this vacancy be filled as soon as possible for our small but extremely busy Court.”

There are currently three District Court judges, with the next successor being filled by Presidential nomination and Senate confirmation.

Sen. Deb Fischer congratulated Rossiter on his decade of work.

“Judge Robert Rossiter has served Nebraska with distinction in this role for a decade,” Fischer said. “His tenure on the federal bench has been defined by integrity, professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law. Nebraska is better for his dedicated service. I’m proud to call him a friend and wish him all the best.”
