“I’m pretty proud of them”: No. 1 Nebraska volleyball beats Florida Gulf Coast

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Huskers finished the Ameritas Players Challenge with a win over Florida Gulf Coast.

Teraya Sigler led the team with 15 kills and 13 blocks on Sunday afternoon at the Devaney Center.

After Nebraska won sets one and two (25-10, 25-17), the Eagles put the Huskers on their heels, causing Nebraska to falter a bit in the third set.

But despite being down, Nebraska’s second unit players, highlighted by Keoni Williams, Skyler Pierce and Campbell Flynn, didn’t let the adversity overtake them. The team scored 5 straight points to tie it before the Eagles ultimately took the third set 27-25.

“Some of the second-string players had awesome games,” Head Coach Dani Busboom Kelly said. “It was great to see Ke [Keoni] play, she hasn’t played much this year. And Campbell did a great job. And they really worked their way into just playing really well. So, I’m pretty proud of them. And that comeback in game three was also awesome. That was tough to do against anybody.”

Nebraska got things back on track to win the fourth set 25-14 and won the match 3-1.

The Huskers’ next game is against Missouri on Wednesday, which will be the makeup of the game at Wrigley Field on Sep. 6. First serve is at 6:00 p.m. at the Devaney Center.
