‘A rising tide will lift all ships’; Muchachos donates proceeds to Team Jack Foundation Radiothon

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Muchachos, a local restaurant, gave back to their local community during the Team Jack Foundation’s Radiothon.

The radiothon, hosted on Sept. 24, raised almost $200,000 for pediatric brain cancer research.

Nick Maestas, owner of Muchachos, said Jack Hoffman’s story is one that touches everyone in Nebraska.

“Seeing their story, like everyone in Nebraska, how could you not be affected and touched by that?” Nick Maestas said. “Now that we have the opportunity to give back to our community, Team Jack was definitely one that we’ve always wanted to support.”

Muchachos donated 20% of their proceeds from Sept. 24 and donated food to the Husker Sports Network crew, who were working to make the radiothon happen.

Maestes said the Nebraska and Husker community showed up for Team Jack.

“Today has been an insanely busy day for us,” Maestes said. “I would rather be packed and give as much money as we can to Team Jack to help do what we can. We are just one place but if you take a lot of small places like us that do similar things and that turns into a big amount donated.”

Maestes emphasized the necessity of Muchachos donating for the radiothon. He said the story of Jack can touch anyone, especially parents. Being a parent of two boys himself, Maestes felt their was no option but to help.

“These are our neighbors. These are the people that live on our blocks. These are the people that come into our restaurants,” Maestes said. “They’re the people that drive our busses and work our streets in uniform. These are our people. A rising tide will lift all ships. The more of us that can give back to the community the better.”
