LPD extends warning regarding scammers targeting incarcerated individuals

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is extending their warning about a scam regarding individuals who have been incarcerated or their loved ones.

According to LPD, in the last week their have been two incidents, resulting in a total loss of almost $3,000.

In both cases, scammers told the victims to send money through digital payment apps.

One scammer told a loved one that a man, who was just released from jail, had active warrants and needed to send money ore return to jail.

The other scammer told a grandmother she had to pay to set up a house arrest program for her grandson who had just been arrested.
