Nebraska basketball partners with Red Cross, raises over $28,000 for flood victims

Husker fans had a chance to help flood victims Wednesday night. They could donate before the Husker NIT game at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

All of the funds collected will go toward flood victims in Nebraska and Southwest Iowa.

The Red Cross, volunteers and student-athletes collected cash donations inside all entrances of Pinnacle Bank Arena from 6:30 p.m. up until tip off around 8:10 p.m.

A representative with the Red Cross says being at the game was the perfect opportunity to bring in more people who have been wanting to help out.

“One thing I will say about the Midwest, when there is a disaster you are not going to see looting here, you are not going to see where the money is from the federal government, people are going to tackle this head on, their neighbors are going to be right in there pitching with them and helping in any way they can,” said Tim Neal.

Red Cross has provided 28 different shelters across Nebraska and Southwest Iowa.

The fundraiser Wednesday raised $28,541.
