Nebraska earns an A in high school financial literacy in national report card

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) announced that Nebraska has earned an A grading in the 2026 National Report Card on State Efforts to Improve Financial Literacy in High Schools.

Only 20% of states earned an A, including Nebraska, Ohio, Utah and seven more.

Four states received an F grade, including California, Massachusetts, South Dakota and Connecticut.

“Adopting a standalone, full-semester high school personal finance graduation requirement is a vital first step in delivering effective financial education to all students,” says Billy Hensley, Ph.D., president and CEO of NEFE. “NEFE applauds Nebraska and supports educational leaders as they work to effectively implement these programs in the classroom.”

According to NEFE, Nebraska has required each high school student to complete at least one five-credit course in personal finance of financial literacy.
