NSP troopers seize over 100 pounds of pot in busts

Nebraska State Patrol troopers made two arrests – and netted over 100 pounds of pot – in a pair of traffic stops on Friday. 

The first stop happened near Kimball, where a trooper reportedly found 35 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of 2018 Mercedes coupe. 

The driver, Kiara Mendez, 24, of Beulaville, North Carolina, was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, and no drug tax stamp.

She was lodged in Kimball County Jail.

The second stop happened near Sutherland, where a a K9 reportedly helped detect approximately 80 pounds of marijuana inside a 2019 Ford station wagon that failed to stay in its lane. 

The driver, Stephen Demilta, 61, of Port Orange, Florida, was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, and no drug tax stamp.

He was lodged in Lincoln County Jail.
