LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – If you walked outside Monday and your car was suddenly covered in dirt, you’re not alone.

The National Weather Service in Omaha said it got reports from around Lincoln, Fairbury and Crete that the light rain was leaving a thin film of dirt or mud on vehicles.

Some people reported the dirt had an orange or reddish tint, like soil you’d see in Oklahoma or Texas.

NWS says it looked over satellite data from the weekend and found the massive storm system currently making its way through the Midwest had “kicked up a huge area of blowing dust” that made its way into Nebraska and Iowa.

The rain combined with the dust in the air to leave behind “a sort of muddy rain around the region.”
