Lincoln drivers urged not to stop in the middle of O st.

If you’ve ever been on O st. at night during the weekend, you know it’s busy. People are getting picked up and dropped off all along O st., and police are trying to do something about it.
The Lincoln Police Dept. started the project to end cars parking in the middle of the road on January 19th, and they’ve already issued around 20 citations as of Wednesday.
Captain Don Scheinost, of LPD, says around 100 cars stop on O st. every night during the weekend, with two to three people in each car. That is a lot of opportunities for an accident to happen.
“We have individuals who are either picking people up or dropping people off, stopping in the middle of O st., mid block somewhere and waiting for those people to exit or get into the vehicle, so we have a couple of problems,” Scheinost said.
Parking in the middle of the road isn’t just dangerous for the passengers getting out or into the car, but also for the driver.
If there isn’t an empty parking space or the taxi zone is full, Captain Scheinost suggests pulling into a parking space on a less busy road, parking in a bus stop that is closed for the evening or using a parking garage.
