NEWS UPDATE: Eppley Airfield reopened after plane slides off runway

UPDATE: Eppley Airfield has reopened after a Southwest Airlines flight slid off the runway following a landing in Omaha. 

The airport tweeted that there may still be some flight delays. 

 

UPDATE: Eppley Airfield has closed after a Southwest Airlines flight slid off a runway following a landing in Omaha, the airport said in a tweet Friday. 

The tweet said all flights are currently suspended, and encouraged people to check with individual airlines for flight status.

A Southwest Airlines plane slid off the end of a runway at Omaha’s Eppley Airfield around 2:30 Friday afternoon. 

The airport said in a tweet that the aircraft slid off Runway 14R after landing at the airport. 

The tweet said no injuries were reported and that airport fire crews were working with Southwest to get passengers off the plane and into the terminal. 

Eppley Airfield is currently CLOSED after Southwest Airlines flight 1643 exited the end of Runway 14R following a landing in Omaha. All flights are currently suspended. Please check with your individual airline for flight status.

A man by the name of Michael Rittershaus on Twitter posted photos through an iced-over window saying “Apparently runway is a bit slick.”
