Lincoln skate shop offering new art programs

The Bay is a nonprofit organization offering a coffee shop, skateboard rink and art studio.
Right now, Kieran Wilson is coordinating a program called The Collective.
“The collective is kind of like our first formal step in having a proper education program that’s based around a life skill that you can go forward and use like later on in life,” Kieran Wilson said.
Wilson grew up spending a lot of time at The Bay and loving art. He describes The Collective as a digital art center, where you can learn graphic design, photography, videography and even music.
Kids will be able to go into the newly renovated room and learn news skills from professionals or people who are highly skilled in a computer program.
“If you have something that you want to pursue, like a passion that you’re wanting to pursue, and you don’t necessarily have the community around supporting you, or the physical technology to make it happen, this is going to be the space where you can come and find those things,” Wilson said.
One of The Bay’s goals is to help end generational poverty by allowing a safe space to young people to have access to mentors and to an environment where they can learn new skills.
They’re still working everything out and reaching out to volunteers to teach, so they don’t have an official start date yet.
