Gulf War memorial held at Lincoln cemetery

Some Lincoln parents took part in a ceremony commemorating the Gulf War Wednesday.

“Those who have lost their children…that is their greatest fear — that their sons and daughters will be forgotten,” said Wyuka Historical Foundation Vice President Diane Bartels, who hosted the event.

Bartels was joined by others at the Desert Shield/Desert Storm Memorial at Wyuka Cemetery, honoring those who died while serving in the Gulf War.

Felice and Larry Rose lost their son, Peter.  His helicopter went down in 1991 en route to deployment during Operation Desert Storm.

Felice said she was happy to see people show up to the event.

“He hasn’t been forgotten,” she said.  “I’m amazed at how many people remember and how many people worked with him in the guard and were friends with him.  It’s a very comforting feeling.”

Bartels said that’s precisely the point of holding the event: making sure those who died while serving are remembered.
