UPDATE: Gym membership on the verge of growing after new year

UPDATE:
Gyms become very popular at the beginning of the new year.
“The national trend is showing over 55 million people start on their health and fitness,” Good Life Fitness owner Steve Auxier said.
Auxier said their N10Sive Boot Camp membership jumps up by 15 to 20 people per class following New Year’s.
But he said he also sees around 65 percent of people drop off after 12 weeks.
“That’s individuals that have started off January,” he said. “By about March they’re kind of fluttering a little bit.”
Gym goers we talked to say some of that is frustration with not getting results fast. They said you have to think long term and not get discouraged.
“If you get too short–sighted, you’re going to wind up disappointed because results don’t just happen overnight,” Nathaniel Sauberan said. “But if you think long term, you will see results.”
They also said you should just get to the gym and do something.
“Just getting your body active will start progress,” Isaiah Young said. “And if you don’t start at all, you’re not going to go anywhere. So just get yourself here at least three or four times a week.”
Good Life Fitness members said it’s all about making yourself better and to not be self–conscious about how you look.
“There will be really big people and people who have been at it for a long time — but no one’s here to necessarily judge you,” Young said.
Auxier encourages you to exercise in groups. He said those who do have a higher success rate than the national average.
“People love to exercise with others — that group camaraderie…that encouragement, which is so key from the beginning of the year for New Year’s resolutions.”
If you needed more reason to get started now, both Good Life Fitness and Planet Fitness are offering membership deals in honor of the new year.
