Nebraska dairy company cited after employee’s death

A Nebraska dairy business has been cited by the Department of Labor’s Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) following the death of an employee.
Thiele Dairy in Clearwater, Nebraska, was cited for failing to develop and implement safety and health programs related to grain bin entry after an employee suffered fatal injuries, the agency said in a news release.
Inspectors determined that an operating sweep auger cut an employee’s leg as he attempted to take corn from inside a grain bin.
OSHA cited the company for eight violations related to grain bin safety, as well as failing to report the worker’s death within the required eight hours.
The company faces penalties totaling $78,899.
