UPDATE: Lincoln Police officer involved in single vehicle accident may have been drinking, police say

Lincoln Police are investigating a single vehicle accident that involved an officer.

The accident happened Sunday afternoon near North 45th and Vine Street.

Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said in a news release that a preliminary investigation indicates alcohol may have been a factor.

The driver of the car, Matthew Brodd, is a Lincoln Police officer, who was off-duty at the time of the accident, Bliemeister said.

The accident caused damage to Brodd’s vehicle and a metal pole.

Brodd was transported to the hospital for injuries he sustained in the crash.

Results of chemical testing for blood alcohol levels are pending analysis by the Nebraska State Lab, Bliemeister said.

Bliemeister says it does not appear Brodd was wearing a seat belt.

He was released from the hospital today and remains off duty, recovering from his injuries.

The new release says completion of the accident investigation, including the review of the blood alcohol testing will dictate the need for additional internal investigative processes.
