Lincoln middle schools will now have School Resource Officers

School resource officers have been in high schools in Lincoln for years, but Thursday was the first day some middle schools in Lincoln had an SRO walking their hallways.
Six SROs will split time between Lincoln’s 12 middle schools, working with students at each location.
School resource officer Rick Roh said, “I think it’s important to have resource officers in the school, so that we’re able to keep kids safe and to make sure they stay safe. This should be a safe place of them to learn.”
Lincoln Public Schools held many meetings and forums on the subject of school safety after the Parkland shooting in Florida.
The public went back and forth on the need for more resource officers and if middle schools should have them.
Director of Public Services, Russ Uhing said, “People disagreed, but we also found much more common ground, and it was a very good process that has kind of led us to this.”
LPS says SROs will have have an emphasis in building relationships with the children.
