Lincoln man’s proposal goes hilariously wrong, then goes viral

Kyle Pierce had it all planned out.
After dating his girlfriend, Jenna Eller, for a year and a half, he knew he wanted to propose.
So Kyle planned a surprise proposal for Jenna, a volleyball player at Concordia University, during one of the team’s practices.
He arranged for her family to be in the stands watching, and crafted a special play with Jenna’s coaches that would send the ball directly her way, as he surprised her from behind.
The big moment came on October 30, with Kyle sneaking into the gym and approaching Jenna as the ball went sailing over her head — exactly as planned.
The only problem was, Jenna, fully focused on the ball, never saw him coming.
The couple collided, with Jenna running full speed into her boyfriend and falling — unscathed — to the ground.
Kyle quickly scooped her up, presenting her with a volleyball that read ‘Will you marry me?’

Tears and cheers ensued, as the young couple hugged and Kyle got down on one knee to pop the question.
She said yes.

The hilarious incident was captured on video by friends, and has been viewed over 40,000 on Kyle’s Facebook page alone.
The video has been picked up by dozens websites and news outlets, including Yahoo and Buzzfeed.
Channel 8 Eyewitness News caught up with the newly engaged couple to ask about the day.
A Concordia graduate himself, Kyle said he was nervous about the proposal, which may have played a role in its unintended execution.
“I wasn’t planning on hitting her,” he said. “I was just thinking, ‘Wow, that was a heck of a hit she took.’ I know if that was me, I wouldn’t have gotten up that quick.”
Jenna, while unhurt, was certainly caught off guard by her fiance.
“It’ just kind of been a blur honestly,” she said. “I think when it first sunk in it was like, ‘Oh, my goodness! This is actually happening!'”
The couple says they’re still getting used to their unexpected internet stardom.
They say its been a good thing, with support coming in from all across the country.
Kyle and Jenna plan to get married next June in Jenna’s hometown of David City, Neb.
The couple says they hope the whole volleyball team can make it.
