Lincoln City Attorney Jeff Kirkpatrick announces bid for mayor

Lincoln City Attorney Jeff Kirkpatrick announced he will run to be Lincoln’s next mayor.

Kirkpatrick announced his bid Thursday afternoon.

A graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Kirkpatrick has served as the Lincoln City Attorney since 2014.

“I am excited today to announce my candidacy for Mayor,” he said in a news release. “This last decade great things have happened in Lincoln. But I have a renewed vision for a Lincoln moving forward, to build a future for all of us now.”

Kirkpatrick says he will continue his “positive, decisive leadership” as mayor, citing his action against smoke shops selling the K-2 drug as an example.

While the mayoral race is officially nonpartisan, Kirkpatrick is a registered democrat.

He joins councilwomen Cyndi Lamm (R) and Leirion Gaylor Baird (D) as city officials running for seat that will be left open by incumbent Chris Beutler.

Several other people have also announced bids.
