News Release:

Asphalt sealing on 13 Lincoln arterial streets will begin Tuesday, July 10 and continue through the end of the month.  Digital message signs will alert drivers to upcoming work and street or lane closures at least two days in advance.  The full schedule of street sections and lanes closed for the project is available at Lincoln.ne.gov.

Side street and driveway access may be limited during the application process.  Motorists should not drive on streets until they have been reopened to avoid tracking and getting sealant on vehicles.  Application at each locations is expected to take one day.  Dry conditions are necessary for successful application, making the project schedule heavily-dependent on weather.

Streets will be treated in the following order:

  • “A” Street from 27th Street to Capitol Parkway
  • S. 27th Street from “A” to South streets
  • “A” Street from 70th to 84th streets
  • “A” Street from 63rd to 70th streets
  • Van Dorn Street from 48th to 56th streets
  • "Y" Street from 17th to 27th streets
  • “A” Street from 7th to 27th streets
  • N.W. 1st Street from Technology Drive to W. Fletcher Avenue
  • Adams Street from I-180 to 14th Street
  • "P" Street from 17th Street to 27th Street (two days of work for this location)
  • N. 70th Street from Aylesworth Avenue to Adams Street
  • N. 48th Street from Holdrege Street to Garland Street
  • Vine Street from 70th to 84th streets
  • N. 56th Street from "P" to Vine streets
  • Van Dorn Street from Normal Boulevard to 70th Street (two days of work for this location)

The project includes crack and surface sealing and installing new pavement markings on asphalt streets between seven and eight years of age.  Sealing the street prevents further cracking and potholes by reducing the potential for weather damage.  Investments in regular and preventive maintenance on relatively new streets extends the life of the driving surface.
