UPDATE: Lincoln survivor of New Mexico crash talks about her experience

UPDATE:

Last Thursday, a semi truck crashed into a Greyhound bus in New Mexico.

It happened along Interstate 40 after the truck lost the tread on its tire and veered across the median.

The crash killed eight people and injured 25 others.

Among the survivors was Rachel Cunningham.

"People were screaming, trying to get out," Rachel said.  "I woke missing a shoe and just still trying to figure out what happened."

Rachel was actually in the middle of moving from Lincoln to Phoenix and she said she was asleep when it happened.

"All I remember was waking up to total chaos," she said.  "Like, people were trampling all over each other.  What was the front of the bus was gone."

She said she was able to get off the bus and help some of those injured get to ambulances.

But she said she came away injured as well.

"Because my adrenaline was so high, I didn’t think I was injured until later that night and the next day.  Then I started having problems breathing."

She said she suffered internal bruising in her chest cavity and in her back.

"It hurts to breathe and talk, even do day–to–day activities.  It even hurts severely to even sneeze."

She didn’t just suffer physically.  She said she’s having trouble sleeping and having nightmares.

After all that, Rachel said she feels lucky to be alive and hopes the other survivors fully recover.
