Hundreds of Big Red loyal fans gathered to hear Athletic Director Bill Moos and Associate AD for Football Operations Matt Davison speak about the current state of the program and what the future has in store. So far, they’re happy with what they’ve seen.
"We’ve had a bunch of guys who are juniors and seniors really show up over the course of the summer and fall camp as great leaders on this football team," said Davison.
Not only is the team looking to improve on last year’s 4-8 record with new coach Scott Frost, they’re looking to improve fan experience. You’ll notice more restrooms and concessions to the north end of the stadium this season. There’s also future plans to do the same to the south, and they’re looking into widening the seats, but that has a catch.
"The widening of the seats is a little bit of a challenge because you’re going to lose seats when you do that, and who gets eliminated?" said Moos.
It’s important to note that the idea of widening seats is only an idea and there are no definite plans to do so right now.
Also discussed is what’s being done to be sure those on the team, and Huskers athletics overall, are able to compete at a championship level. The secret Moos says, is nutrition.
"These young men and women in this program, In order to be in a position to win championships, have to be fueled properly," he said.
Players also need to be good students and Davison believes adding morning practices gets the athletes in a frame of mind to succeed.
"All of a sudden you’re on campus already, there’s really no excuse to not go to class now."
