It’s the beginning of a new semester at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and students of all ages and majors are heading back to class on Monday, August 20.

Campus will be buzzing once again with students going from building to building, trying to keep up with their schedules.

As a freshman, having a roommate is a new experience to adapt to.

"I’m pretty nervous, I’ve never lived with anyone in the same room, so it’ll be interesting," said Nate McQueen, a freshman majoring in Psychology from Omaha.

Gone are the days of an eight period class day, with bells to signal when it’s time to move to the next class.

In college, it’s up to you to get where you’re going at the right time – a responsibility some freshmen are nervous about.

"Just making sure I get to my classes on time, that’s the one thing I’m worried about," explained Kaitlyn Heisler, a freshman majoring in Athletic Training from Omaha.

Keeping track of not only classes, but joining clubs, making new friends, and living in a new place – all without parents there to help – can be overwhelming to an incoming college student.

"It’s exciting but also scary, because I’ve lived in the same house my whole life," said Taylor Richters, a freshman majoring in Criminal Justice from Utica.

A good balance between studying and fun is something all parents can understand, and something Nate’s parents reminded him of before sending him off to college.

"They just want me to enjoy myself, study, and do well in college."

Good luck to all the students beginning the Fall 2018 semester!
