Man leads police on high speed chase, near collision in Lincoln

A man from Columbus who allegedly led authorities on a chase after fleeing a traffic stop in Seward nearly rammed into bystanders Thursday morning in Lincoln.

Authorities say 32-year-old Tyler Behnken sped off when police tried to pull him over in Seward. He led them on a chase down Highway 34.

Authorities had to use spike strips to slow him down where 34 meets I-180 in Lincoln. That’s when Behnken lost control, and was filmed nearly sideswiping a car stopped on the side of the road.

Behnken was then photographed by another witness fleeing his vehicle. Authorities say they used a taser on him several times before they could finally arrest him.

He now faces several charges.
