GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Attention is turning to the Nebraska State Fair, where the countdown is on.

It has been a busy summer for the fair staff. They hosted three national livestock shows, including the Hereford junior nationals that filled the barns with competitors from 38 states.

"We have a livestock department unlike any other in the United States of America," said Lori Cox, executive director of the Nebraska State Fair. "These facilities show that. Our people are just tremendous. Having these junior nationals across the board in the summertime is such a tremendous effort and serves Nebraska in a way no other event can."

The fair is now just 41 days away and as that number gets smaller, the staff feels the pressure.

"It’s fair time, baby," Cox said. "We are ready to go and one of the things the staff gets nervous about is the countdown itself, because everybody’s like ‘stop talking about it,’ because it’s a big of nerves coming into the fair."

The fair is well into planning for next year.

2019 will bring the 150th anniversary of the Nebraska State Fair and the 10th in Grand Island.
