New construction project begins

"They are very efficient out there."
Another construction project has started in the capital city. Workers are using asphalt sealant on 13 Lincoln streets. The new project includes crack and surface sealing and installing new pavement markings on asphalt streets between 7 and 8 years old.
The first street being worked on is "A" Street from 27th Street to Capitol Parkway.
Joyce Converse is a property manager near the first street of construction.
She was glad to see all the notices she got from the city. They received not only a notice about the road impacting them the most but also a list of the other streets planning on being fixed.
"I am very happy to see this done because I have an old car that rattles a lot and it would be nice to have nice smooth pavement," says Converse.
Thomas Shafer works for the city’s Public Works and Utilities Department. He said this surface treatment will provide lifelong affects. Sealing the streets will prevent further cracking and potholes by reducing the potential for weather damage.
"We are making sure that what we have done stays good, it’s our goal to keep roads good and not allow them to become bad," says Shafer.
Side street and driveway access may be limited during the sealing process. Motorists should not drive on streets until they have been reopened to avoid tracking and getting sealant on vehicles.
