The firework regulations you need to know for the Fourth of July holiday

Seeing fireworks light up the sky is a staple of any Fourth of July celebration.

But, knowing when you can use them matters.

In the city of Lincoln, firework sales and use are allowed on:

July 3rd from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

July 4th from 8 a.m. to midnight.

Knowing these dates could save you from a citation, which varies from $100 to $500.

Lincoln Police want you to know they are not trying to ruin your fun when they stop you from using fireworks outside of the permitted times; they’re trying to keep you safe.

State wide, the rules on fireworks differ than those within city limits.

Sales can begin in certain areas on June 25th, and you can shoot them off before July 3rd in those areas, as well.

If your neighbor is shooting off their fireworks outside the permissible dates or times, do not call 911; use the Lincoln Police Department non–emergency line at (402) 441-6000.

Another reminder: only certain fireworks are allowed within Lincoln city limits.
