Cold front passing through the state leads to cooler Wednesday
A refreshing change is coming to southeast Nebraska for Wednesday. However, before that can happen, we have to get a cold front through the state – and the associated showers and thunderstorms.
A cold front is moving in to southeast Nebraska late this afternoon. There was some concern for severe thunderstorms, but the cold front has managed to shoot out ahead of the line of thunderstorms, partially boosted by outflow boundaries produced by earlier thunderstorms. Rain and thunderstorms occurring behind the front should keep the ongoing rain/thunderstorms at bay, meaning the threat for severe thunderstorms is decreasing for the Channel 8 viewing area. We will need to monitor any development along, or just ahead, of the cold front, but I am not anticipating much action.
Scattered showers, and a few thunderstorms, will remain possible as we go through the overnight and even in to portions of Wednesday morning. Otherwise, temperatures will be held down as winds shift around to the north, and skies remain mostly cloudy for much of the day. Skies should turn mostly sunny by late afternoon. Highs will be several degrees below normal, only reaching the lower 80°s.
We warm back up for the end of the week before another cold front passes. Temperatures should climb in to the lower, and near middle, 90°s Friday. Higher humidity – dew points in the upper 60°s and lower 70°s – will make it feel “muggly” with heat indices nearing 100°.
