LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Friends and family are mourning the loss of a Lincoln teen fatally shot while visiting Kansas.
Topeka police tell Channel 8 17-year-old Nevaeh Martinez was shot in the head on July 3 in Topeka.
She died the next day, according to family members.
The suspect, 21-year-old Daisha Butler, of Topeka, is charged with first-degree murder.
Those who knew Martinez gathered Friday night in Topeka, releasing balloons in her memory near the intersection where she was killed.
AKionna Anderson traveled to Kansas from Lincoln to attend the vigil.
“My beautiful friend it’s sad to say my last good byes but I know I will see you again,” she said.
A GoFundMe page has raised more than $5,800.
The page creator wrote “Naveah was loved by many and cherished by all.”
Family tells Channel 8 a funeral service for Nevaeh will be July 23 at 11 a.m. at Love Fellowship Church, 2636 SE Minnesota Ave. in Topeka.
There will be a public viewing at 10 a.m. the same day.
