LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Our very own Capital Humane Society spent the weekend down in Louisiana, helping rescue animals and bringing them back to the ‘Good Life’ to find their forever home.

Lincoln has six new friendly faces around town, thanks to four staff members from CHS, who traveled south this weekend to bring six furry friends back to Nebraska. The dogs arrived early Monday morning from New Orleans to give animal shelters in Louisiana more space after Hurricane Ida has caused an over flow.

“Many families needed to surrender their animals because they didn’t have power or homes in some cases, Shannon Martin-Roebuck, the Executive Director of Capital Humane Society said.

The Capital staff, who made the trip, said it was a very transformative experience and something they will never forget.

“It was equally exciting and good for the heart to see us all be able to bring the animals back here where they’re going to go home so quickly. But also, the relief of the people that are taking care of them,” Lindsay Thompson, who went on the rescue said. “It was very emotional.”

If the need continues down south, Capital Humane Society is ready to head back to the Gulf Coast to lend a helping hand and bring more animals back to Nebraska.

“There are more animals that need our help down there, more animals that need anyone’s help, they had animals coming in why we were still there. It’s not just a one time thing, it can’t be,” Hillary Brandt, who went on the rescue said.

With more furry friends in there care, the Humane Society is in need of extra help themselves.

CHS says foster care is always an option for those who want to help but aren’t able to keep an animal. They’re always in need of Hill’s Science Diet pet food and of course, money donations are always helpful to the Humane Society.
