Running towards record highs Saturday
We are in the middle of an incredible stretch of warm weather. Lincoln reached 86° Friday, making it the warmest October 8 since 2010. Through Friday, the capital city has recorded 13 consecutive days with above normal temperatures with many more to come. It is the longest streak in Lincoln since January 4-21 (18 days).
Not only is it warm but there is a chance we could approach record high temperatures Saturday afternoon. While there will be high overcast skies, temperatures will warm on gusty southerly winds. Highs will range from 80° in Kearney to 90° in Beatrice. I am forecasting a high of 88° in Lincoln which comes close to the record. The record is 90° established in 1921 and tied in 1928.
A cold front will pass through the region Sunday morning. Even though the cold front passes, “cooler” air will lag behind the front by several hours, keeping high temperatures in the middle 70°s.
An upper-level low will lift northeast through Kansas and Missouri Sunday afternoon. As it attempts to get close to Nebraska, clouds will stream ahead. Later Sunday night there will be a chance for showers developing, especially in the extreme southeast corner of the state. Know that the majority of southeast Nebraska will remain dry Sunday, but areas to the southeast will have a chance through Monday morning.
