A few flakes possible on Monday in Lincoln

Temperatures were much cooler on Sunday! High temperatures were only able to make it into the upper-40s to low-50s across southeast Nebraska. In addition, cloud cover also returned.

Cloud cover will thicken overnight and into Monday morning, with some light rain or a wintry mix possible by the morning commute. Low temperatures should get down to the middle-30s in Lincoln by Monday morning.

Sunday Night Forecast

It’ll be chilly in Lincoln on Monday with highs remaining in the upper-30s to low-40s. Overcast skies will continue to reign over the capital city, with a wintry mix possible throughout the morning and afternoon.

There may be some times where we see a transition to light snow and others where we see mainly rain. Light rain looks more likely in the afternoon as temperatures start to warm up.

Monday Forecast

The combination of above-freezing temperatures and very warm soil temperatures will make it very difficult for any snow to accumulate in Lincoln. Any frozen precipitation should have little impact in Lincoln. As always, be careful heading out for your morning commute just in case roads become slick.

While soil temperatures are also very warm farther west, the snow may come down hard enough to overcome the warm soils and accumulate in our western counties. This is especially true near the Tri-Cities and points west. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the purple-shaded counties. This does include Kearney, Ogallala, Lexington, Arapahoe, and Broken Bow.

Winter Weather Advisory

Locations near Grand Island and Hastings likely won’t see anything over an inch, and maybe not even over a 0.5″. Kearney may be able to squeeze out an inch, but greater totals closer to 3-5″ are possible closer to North Platte and Ogallala. Any accumulations sharply diminish east of the Tri-Cities as the expected intensity of any snowfall lets up. For those that do see accumulations, they’ll likely start to quickly melt once the precipitation stops.

Stormcast Snow Accumulations

Overall, this looks like a minor event. But be careful if out and about especially if you live farther west and/or are traveling west. Meteorologist Brittany Foster will have live radar updates in the morning and will have an updated forecast starting at 5AM on Channel 8 News. After Monday, the latest indications are that we start to dry out.
