Lincoln Mayor issues executive order to protect LQBTQ+ employees

The City of Lincoln has taken a closer step to inclusion by implementing an order to protect its LQBTQ+ employees.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird signed a new anti–discrimination policy for City of Lincoln employees, Monday afternoon.
“We want to make sure that anyone who works at the City of Lincoln or applies at the City of Lincoln is protected from discrimination on the basis of who they are or whom they love or their gender identity or expression, said Gaylor-Baird.”
This is the first time that city employees have been protected on the basis of gender identity or expression.
The city council stood with Baird as she announced the new order.
“This is a great first step for our city and this help insures that every single person who is working in our City of Lincoln government can be protected and have the opportunity to earn a living and not live in fear,” said James Michael Bowers, a city council member.
Gaylor– Baird says the new executive order adds a definition of sexual orientation that was not part of previous city regulations.
She challenges other Lincoln businesses to add this to their regulations.
“We are challenging other city employers who have yet to implement policies like these that treat LGBT employees fairly to do so,” said Gaylor– Baird. “We are trying to lead by example.”
The executive order goes into effect today.
