NSP: 130 pounds of pot seized in traffic stops

A pair of traffic stops on Interstate 80 Wednesday resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of more than 130 pounds of marijuana. 

The Nebraska State Patrol said the first stop occurred near Giltner when a K9 detected drugs inside a vehicle pulled over for speeding. A search of the vehicle turned up 121 pounds of marijuana hidden in trash bags, duffel bags and a suitcase, the patrol said. 

The driver, Fran Ferreiras, 28, of Cliffside Park, New Jersey, was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to distribute, and no drug tax stamp. Ferreiras was lodged in Hamilton County Jail.

The second stop occurred near Sidney, where troopers reportedly found 13 pounds of marijuana hidden inside a suitcase, the patrol said. 

The driver, Jason Wilson, 39, of Sacramento, California was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no operator’s license. Wilson was lodged in Cheyenne County Jail.
