LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A local vegan bistro is continuing to give warm food during this cold week. The owner of Pepe’s Bistro says it’s all about sharing love in the community.
“It’s been a lot of fun, a lot of people coming in, a lot of college students saying they appreciate it and that they’d never been here,” said Pepe Fierro. “So it’s been fantastic to preach about supporting local and you know things like that.”

Pepe’s Bistro is serving free vegan burritos to those in need. You can just walk up and ask for it. Fierro says the pandemic and the cold weather inspired him to give back, starting in January, serving soup and burritos on Mondays. When it became a hit in the neighborhood, he extended it to giving all this week.
One customer says the food gave her a boost before she went to work.

”I am amazed that he’s doing this kind thing by giving free food out,” said Marlies Hager. “So I’m excited to eat this really delicious burrito, but I’m also uplifted.”

The burrito giveaway ends this week and Fierro says he hopes to continue to encourage people to eat and support local.
