A Local gym holds a charity pumpkin run
Runners ran with pumpkins and in between each lap ate pumpkin pie then jello, then pumpkin spice juice.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Staying in the Halloween spirit, a local gym decided to get active to prepare for all that candy.
They held a pumpkin run.
“You grab the pumpkin, do a 400-meter run, come back to that same spot,” said Broderick Nickens, owner of ONEUP. “Then they would eat a piece of pumpkin pie. If you’re gonna go out and eat a bunch of candy, you’re gonna do that regardless right? You’re probably gonna go out and have a little fun. So we might as well have a little fun together and work while we’re having some fun.”
ONEUP Gym near North 12th and Saunders streets encouraged locals to get active in a unique way. Runners ran with pumpkins and in between each lap ate pumpkin pie, then jello, then pumpkin spice juice.
So a lot of pumpkin!
“It was very challenging to run with all of that extra weight physically and inside of us,” said Mallory Luers. “There was a lot of laughs though, it was really fun.”
Winners of the heats were awarded monetary prizes. Funds raised will be given to a local animal shelter. If you missed out, they plan to do the pumpkin run again next year.
