Abduction of woman and child leads to crash after suspect fled officers

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — On Aug. 16, Lincoln Police Department (LPD) officers were dispatched around 2 p.m.

Multiple callers reported seeing a man force a women into a vehicle while she yelled for help at the area of 48th and Y streets. They also reported seeing blood on the woman’s face and a child inside a vehicle.

Officers located the vehicle near 48th and Pioneers Boulevard before the suspect fled. The officers engaged in pursuit until the suspect crashed into another vehicle.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle struck reported minor injuries. The woman was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained during the assault and crash. The infant was also taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Steven Schroeder, 26, was arrested and lodged at Lancaster County Jail for false imprisonment, domestic assault, child abuse, willful reckless driving and fleeing to avoid arrest.

The investigation is ongoing.
