Alcohol involved incident leads to 19-year-old’s death

SARPY COUNTY, Neb. (KLKN) – On December 12th, 2021 at 12:46 am, the Sarpy County Sheriffs Office responded to an incident East of 132nd Street and Main Street in Springfield, Nebraska.  The incident involved a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Briar Campbell and Garett Plambeck, both 18 years old, and 19-year-old Gage Nech of Gretna were all involved in the accident.  Nech died from the injuries sustained in the incident.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Nech drove his Ford truck from downtown Springfield to the location of the incident, stopping his vehicle on the road.  Campbell and Plambeck were both passengers in the vehicle.

Nech and Campbell proceeded to exit the vehicle and began to wrestle each other in the roadway.

Plambeck did not know that Nech and Campbell were on the ground towards the front passenger side of the truck.  Plambeck and at some point put the truck in drive, in the process, the right front tire rolled over Nech, causing life-threatening injuries.

When officers arrived, Nech was laying in the road with life-threatening injuries.  Springfield Fire & Rescue, Papillion Fire & Rescue, and Air Methods Life Net medical helicopter also responded and provided medical treatment to Nech.

According to Sarpy County Sheriffs Office, it appears that alcohol was involved in the incident, they are currently investigating to determine the source of the alcohol.
